MHT CET is conducted for admitting students into B.Tech and BE courses offered by the participating institutes in Maharashtra. It is organized by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra every year. Around 4 lakh candidates appear for the exam.
MHT CET is an offline test based on the Maharashtra State Board syllabus. Admissions to around 1.5 lakh seats offered in the participating colleges are done based on MHT CET scores. 85% seats of government engineering colleges are filled via MHTCET while the remaining 15% seats fall under the All India Quota and are filled through JEE Main.
Application window for aspiring engineers opens from mid-February. The entrance exam is held tentatively in the 1st week of May. MHT CET Result is announced by DTE tentatively in June.
Maharashtra has a variety of good and renowned engineering institutes. These offer engineering courses in all streams. Applicants can get into these colleges by giving MHT CET. A plus point of this exam is that there is no qualifying marks criterion to be eligible for counselling. All students are eligible for counselling if they have qualified the exam.

Individuals must participate in the Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) to secure a seat in one of the engineering colleges. This process is conducted online in 3 rounds. Applicants must register for the process wherein they are required to fill a preference form. This form will indicate their choice of colleges and streams in decreasing order of preference. Seats are allotted based on their scores and choices.
DTE releases the seat allotment list. Candidates can exercise the ‘Freeze’ option to accept the allotted institute. If they wish to wait for their higher preference, they must choose the ‘Float’ or ‘Slide’ option.
Aspirants who confirm their seat are issued seat allotment letters of the particular institute. They must report to the designated college to pay the fees and complete the admission formalities.
Through MHT CET, students can pursue engineering courses in top notch institutes of Maharashtra. It is relatively easier than JEE Main and the number of applicants is also less. This reduces the level of competition and increases the chances of getting into good engineering colleges. Candidates should make use of this opportunity to land their dream college and course.
