Maharashtra showcases color, spirit and variety of cultural identity and aspirations of the whole India. It is a state of historic significance and magnificent monuments. Mumbai, originally formed conjoining seven islands in the Arabian Sea namely Colaba, Fort, Byculla, Matunga, Worli, Parel and Mahim, is the capital city of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra is known as the state of love, hope and dreams. It offers quality education and best career opportunities to its people. It is an epicenter of top-notch colleges that offer technical education such as Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, College of Engineering, Pune, and College of Engineering, Pune.

The most important factors you should consider while making a decision about your career choice are: Your own potential and hard work, the scope in your field, and category and reputation of the institute.

Engineering is a wide field and encompasses so many career options. In this global era, not just India, but the world needs well-equipped, talented engineering graduates in plenty. This assures that engineering is the right career choice. Also, it offers the highest paying jobs.

MHT CET is conducted for admitting students into B.Tech and BE courses offered by the participating institutes in Maharashtra. It is organized by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra every year. Around 4 lakh candidates appear for the exam.

MHT CET is an offline test based on the Maharashtra State Board syllabus. Admissions to around 1.5 lakh seats offered in the participating colleges are done based on MHT CET scores. 85% seats of government engineering colleges are filled via MHTCET while the remaining 15% seats fall under the All India Quota and are filled through JEE Main.

Application window for aspiring engineers opens from mid-February. The entrance exam is held tentatively in the 1st week of May. MHT CET Result is announced by DTE tentatively in June.

Maharashtra has a variety of good and renowned engineering institutes. These offer engineering courses in all streams. Applicants can get into these colleges by giving MHT CET. A plus point of this exam is that there is no qualifying marks criterion to be eligible for counselling. All students are eligible for counselling if they have qualified the exam.

Students have a fantastic opportunity of getting into good colleges through MHT CET. The popularity of the state has increased with regards to quality education imparted in these institutes. We have mentioned the courses offered and seat intake in top engineering colleges of Maharashtra.

A good score in MHT CET opens the doors to the top engineering colleges. These offer B.Tech and BE degrees in a variety of streams. The quality of education imparted is at par with other state and central engineering institutes.

Also, some colleges like University Department of Chemical Technology (Aurangabad), Textile & Engineering Institute (Ichalkaranji) and Institute of Chemical Technology (Mumbai) offer numerous textile and chemical engineering courses.

Seat Intake

MHT CET is a quite competitive exam. All candidates want to get into the best colleges and the limited seats make it all the more difficult.

Also, every college has their flagship engineering programs which are the best of their field in the state. Candidates will get into colleges and streams as per their performance in the exam. Those who score in the range of 180- 200 will most likely get their preferred stream and college.

The maximum capacity of the top 15 engineering colleges in Maharashtra is given below along with the most pursued stream in these colleges:

Admission Process

MHT CET Result is declared in the 2nd week of June. Counselling and admission process begins soon after the results have been put up. All students who have cleared the exam are eligible for counselling. DTE holds a common counselling process for aspirants.

Individuals must participate in the Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) to secure a seat in one of the engineering colleges. This process is conducted online in 3 rounds. Applicants must register for the process wherein they are required to fill a preference form. This form will indicate their choice of colleges and streams in decreasing order of preference. Seats are allotted based on their scores and choices.

DTE releases the seat allotment list. Candidates can exercise the ‘Freeze’ option to accept the allotted institute. If they wish to wait for their higher preference, they must choose the ‘Float’ or ‘Slide’ option.

Aspirants who confirm their seat are issued seat allotment letters of the particular institute. They must report to the designated college to pay the fees and complete the admission formalities.

Through MHT CET, students can pursue engineering courses in top notch institutes of Maharashtra. It is relatively easier than JEE Main and the number of applicants is also less. This reduces the level of competition and increases the chances of getting into good engineering colleges. Candidates should make use of this opportunity to land their dream college and course.
